New Delhi, 9 December 2024: Around 40 schools in Delhi were evacuated Monday morning following a bomb threat email demanding $30,000, police said. The email, sent late Sunday night, targeted prominent institutions, including DPS RK Puram, GD Goenka Paschim Vihar, The British School Chanakyapuri, and Modern School Mandi House, among others.
Emergency alerts first came from DPS RK Puram at 7:06 a.m. and GD Goenka at 6:15 a.m., prompting swift action by bomb detection squads, local police, fire officials, and dog units. By 9:30 a.m., no suspicious items had been found, though searches and security operations continued.
The threatening email, sent from scottielanza@gmail.com, claimed multiple bombs were hidden within the schools. “The bombs are small and hidden very well. They won’t cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured,” the email read, adding: “You all deserve to suffer and lose limbs. If I do not receive $30,000, the group ‘KNR’ will act.”
In response, most schools suspended classes and sent students home. A message from Mother Mary’s School, Mayur Vihar, informed parents about the situation, stating, “An email was received this morning regarding a bomb threat. As a precaution, students are being dispersed immediately. Please collect your wards from their respective bus stops.”
Harish, a parent collecting his daughter, expressed frustration. “This is a failure of the government. Schools have been receiving such threats regularly,” he said.
In May, Delhi faced a similar wave of threats when over 200 schools, hospitals, and government facilities received bomb emails. Those cases remain unsolved as the sender had used a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to conceal their identity.
Authorities are continuing investigations into Monday’s threats while enhancing security measures at schools.
