Abhohar, 20 February 2025— An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader allegedly shot and killed the husband of a village sarpanch in Kallar Khera, Abohar, on Thursday following an argument over the construction of a drain.
The suspect, identified as Manoj Kumar, is reportedly the party’s block president. The victim, Shankar Jalap, was injured in the shooting and died while being taken to Sriganganagar. His body was later moved to the Civil Hospital in Abohar for a post-mortem.
Jalap’s wife, Poonam, an AAP member, was elected sarpanch in last year’s panchayat elections.
Initial reports indicate that the dispute arose when the village panchayat was addressing the drain’s construction. Kumar allegedly lost his temper when his demands were disregarded, pulled out a weapon, and shot Jalap.
Police officials, including Khuian Sarwar and sub-divisional officers, have reached the village and are investigating the incident.
