LUDHIANA, Aug 13 — Aam Aadmi Party MLA Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina from the South Assembly constituency in Ludhiana was injured Wednesday morning when her vehicle struck a divider near the Khanauri border in Haryana, police said.
Chhina, who had just returned from a conference in the United States, sustained facial injuries and was first admitted to a private hospital in Kaithal before being referred to Ludhiana for further treatment.
Her husband, son, gunman, and driver had gone to Delhi airport late Tuesday night to receive her. According to police, the crash occurred while the family was returning home.
“A motorcycle suddenly came in front of the car. The driver swerved, lost control, and the vehicle hit the divider,” an officer said.
The biker involved in the collision was also injured and taken to hospital.
Witnesses said Chhina’s Innova was travelling at a steady pace before the sudden appearance of the motorcycle. “It all happened in seconds,” a local resident said.
Hospital officials in Ludhiana said Chhina’s condition was stable and she was under observation.
