CHANDIGARH, August 12 — In preparation for the upcoming Panjab University Campus Students’ Council elections, the Aam Aadmi Party has appointed Sangrur Member of Parliament Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Bagha Purana Member of Legislative Assembly Amritpal Singh Sukhanand as election in-charges. The state leadership entrusted both figures to guide the campaign for the Association of Students for Alternative Politics, the student movement affiliated with the party, as campus election preparations gather momentum across the university.
Following a broad consultation with current and former student representatives, MLA Amritpal Singh Sukhanand affirmed that the movement is focused on bringing clean governance and active student advocacy to the campus. He asserted that student politics serves as a vital foundation for producing visionary public figures capable of serving society with integrity.
“Whenever there is a discussion about education, student rights or bringing a new generation of youth into politics, AAP is always on the forefront,” stated MLA Amritpal Singh Sukhanand. “We are preparing for these elections with full commitment because we want to ensure that students’ voices are strongly represented.”
The campaign strategy addresses foundational student needs alongside national educational dialogues. AAP student representatives have actively participated in national efforts concerning competitive exam transparency and paper leak resolutions, while simultaneously addressing local campus priorities such as hostel maintenance, sanitation standards, campus security, and electrical safety measures.
Sukhanand declared that constructive student involvement yields meaningful policy results, citing recent administrative decisions regarding the Panjab University Senate elections as evidence of effective advocacy. He maintained that the organization remains dedicated to creating a welcoming political space for scholars arriving from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and across the region.
“We want to produce leaders who, after leaving this university and entering public life, speak for the people and work for them with honesty, dedication and enthusiasm,” asserted Sukhanand, noting that empowering youth in democratic decision-making remains a central goal.
