CHANDIGARH, March 17 — The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a massive demonstration at the Sector-17 Plaza on Monday to protest the rising cost of LPG cylinders and a reported artificial gas shortage in the city. Supporters gathered opposite Neelam Cinema, chanting slogans against the central government and demanding an immediate reduction in fuel prices.
Leading the agitation, senior AAP figures stated that the “double engine” government had become a source of trouble for the common man. They affirmed that the current administration, which previously protested when cylinders cost ₹400, has remained silent now that prices have surged past the ₹1000 mark. The party leadership declared the current economic situation a “surgical strike” on the kitchen budgets of ordinary families.
“If the LPG prices are not curbed immediately and the supply system in the city is not streamlined, the Aam Aadmi Party will intensify this agitation,” a party spokesperson maintained. Leaders asserted that the shortage in the city is being engineered to benefit private interests while the public suffers from back-breaking inflation.
The protest saw the participation of several prominent local leaders, including former Mayor Kuldeep Kumar and councilors Hardeep Singh and Anju Katyal. Party officials affirmed that the Sector-17 rally was merely a “trailer” of a larger movement if the government fails to address the supply chain disruptions and pricing issues.
