Chandigarh: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party has inducted Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema into its ten-member Political Affairs Committee, strengthening Punjab leadership in key decision-making ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Satyendar Jain, former Delhi minister and co-incharge of party affairs in Punjab, has also joined the party’s highest political body as a member. Mann, who previously attended committee meetings as a special invitee in his capacity as Chief Minister, now holds a permanent seat on the panel.
In another significant organisational move, party functionaries Rajbir Ghuman, OSD to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and Bibhav Kumar have been inducted into the twenty-three-member National Executive. The mention of Ghuman comes as his name was referenced in an Enforcement Directorate probe regarding a cash-for-transfer and land matter in the state.
These top appointments provide Punjab leadership with direct involvement in organizational strategy, candidate selection, and campaign planning. Cheema’s inclusion brings an additional senior administrative voice to the high command. Punjab remains the principal large-state government for the AAP, making the upcoming state contest a key focus for its national leadership.
The party is preparing for the election campaign amid challenges such as fiscal constraints, employee demands, and opposition critique. Mann’s permanent inclusion in the Political Affairs Committee establishes closer alignment between the state administrative machinery and the party’s central organizational structure.
