CHANDIGARH — The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad retained control of the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council after candidate Ankit Bidhan registered a decisive victory for the post of president. Bidhan, a research scholar at the university’s Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion, polled 2,879 votes to secure the top seat for the organization.
Originally hailing from Jind district in Haryana, Bidhan pursued his law degree from the university department and has maintained an active role in campus student politics since 2021. Following the poll declaration, the newly elected president asserted that the outcome reflects the youth’s trust in organizational policies. Bidhan affirmed that addressing campus-specific issues and resolving student grievances on a priority basis remain his primary commitments for the upcoming academic session.
The election outcome highlights growing political consolidation on campus, backed by crucial pre-poll alliances. The formal endorsement extended by the Student Organisation of India ahead of voting provided key momentum to Bidhan’s campaign. Building on the precedent set during the previous election cycle by former president Gaurav Veer Sohal, ABVP’s consecutive win marks a significant structural shift in the university’s student governance landscape.
