AISA Enters Panjab University Student Council Polls

CHANDIGARH, Aug 25 — The All India Students Association (AISA), affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), will make its debut in the Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) elections this year. The party has fielded Ajay Karan Singh for the post of joint secretary.

AISA’s presence on the PU campus has been minimal for over a decade, reviving only around 2023 with the launch of a new Instagram page for its Panjab University wing. “We aim to engage students on critical issues affecting campus life, including recent fee hikes and governance matters,” Singh said while campaigning on campus.

While still relatively unknown at Panjab University, AISA has a strong footprint in Delhi University and a long-standing track record at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The party has consistently won the JNUSU elections every year since 2006, except in 2016.

During his campaign, Singh has noted concerns such as the recent fee hikes, the election of the university senate body, and opposition to the protest affidavit. “Students need a voice that will stand up against arbitrary administrative decisions,” he noted.

Observers say AISA’s entry into PUCSC polls could change the dynamics of student politics, particularly given its strong organizational experience elsewhere in the country.
