Akali Dal Delegation Urges Dhami to Continue as SGPC President

Chandigarh, 19 February— A high-level delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) met Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami on Tuesday, urging him to reconsider his resignation as the President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

Briefing reporters, senior SAD leader Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said the delegation sought to understand the reasons behind Dhami’s sudden resignation.

He stated that Dhami stepped down due to “mental anguish” and assured him of the party’s full support, stressing hasizing the Panth’s need for his leadership.

Cheema reaffirmed the party’s commitment to resolving issues surrounding Dhami’s resignation through continued discussions.

He mentioned Dhami’s significant contributions to both SAD and the SGPC, attributing his leadership roles to his honesty and capability.

He also noted that the SGPC, being a statutory body, must sometimes make difficult decisions, including matters related to the appointment of Jathedars.

Meanwhile, Cheema congratulated Dhami on the birth of his grandson, sharing in his family’s joy.
