Chandigarh/Mohali, 15 November 2024:Olympian Akashdeep Singh and fellow athlete Monika Malik, also an Olympian from Haryana, got engaged in a private ceremony at a resort on November 13. The couple is all set to tie the knot in Mohali on November 15.
The engagement was a star-studded affair, with several key figures from the hockey world in attendance.
Among the guests were former Indian Hockey team captain Manpreet Singh, current captain Harmanpreet Singh, and Sardara Singh, along with coaches who had mentored Akashdeep throughout his career.
Avtar Singh, a coach at Surjit Academy, shared his joy over the couple’s engagement. “Akashdeep was very young when he trained under me. He has always been a dedicated and hardworking player,” Singh said, reflecting on his early days with the athlete.
Akashdeep’s career is decorated with numerous achievements. With over 250 matches and more than 90 international goals under his belt, he was a key member of India’s gold medal-winning team at the 2014 Asian Games and represented the country at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
He also helped secure a silver medal at the Hockey Champions Trophy in London. In addition to his sporting successes, Akashdeep was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) just a year and a half after the 2014 Games.
