CHANDIGARH, Sept 26 — Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh affirmed that sharing his candid assessment regarding the state’s political situation with the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership does not indicate any intent to exit the party.
Speaking at the launch of a biographical book on late cricket legend Bishan Singh Bedi, the veteran leader declared that offering grounded advice remains his duty toward the organization. Drawing from six decades of political experience, he maintained that a strategic coalition with the Shiromani Akali Dal remains essential for achieving electoral success in Punjab.
Addressing concerns over organizational consultation, Amarinder Singh noted that long-standing familiarity with regional dynamics ought to guide policy formulation. “Some people came after us and have not even been there for a year. We have seen the situation in Punjab over all these years, but they have not even asked us. It is My duty to tell them what my views and feelings are,” he stated.
Reflecting on his political trajectory, which included shifts following major historical developments such as Operation Blue Star, he maintained that offering feedback reflects institutional commitment rather than political instability. “Parties keep changing. When I was in the Congress, I also went to the Akali Dal over Operation Blue Star and later returned to the Congress. That does not mean I will now leave and join another party,” he asserted.
At 84, the veteran politician affirmed that he remains active and focused on contributing meaningfully to public life, remarking that he is “not that old” to step away from his ongoing political journey.
