Amritsar, April 27: Punjab Police dismantled a weapon-smuggling operation with alleged ties to Pakistan, arresting Abhishek Kumar from Amritsar on Sunday.
The police seized seven pistols, including five .30-bore weapons and two Glock 9mm pistols, four live cartridges, and Rs 1.5 lakh from the accused.
“Based on reliable intelligence, Counter Intelligence Amritsar has successfully disrupted an illegal weapon smuggling operation linked to Pakistan, arresting Abhishek Kumar and recovering seven pistols, four live cartridges, and Rs 1,50,000,” said Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on X.
The investigation revealed that the operation was orchestrated by Jassa, an Australia-based individual working in collaboration with smugglers from Pakistan.
Jassa, along with his local associates Jodhbir Singh alias Jodha and Abhishek Kumar, facilitated the illegal arms trade through the Indo-Pak border.
“Preliminary inquiries suggest that both Abhishek and Jodha are involved in hawala transactions, pointing to their connections to a larger criminal network,” the DGP added.
An FIR has been lodged with the State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar, and authorities are continuing their investigation to track down other members of the smuggling ring and uncover further links in the operation.
