Ancient Spice Ajwain is Decisive Bedtime Habit

CHANDIGARH, Jan 10 – The traditional practice of drinking warm ajwain (carom seed) water is seeing a significant resurgence as a sustainable tool for weight loss and gut health. Long used in Indian households as a remedy for indigestion, this “grandma-approved” hack is now being recognized for its ability to stimulate digestive enzymes and manage late-night cravings.

Unlike trendy detox supplements, ajwain water functions by improving the efficiency of the body’s natural processes. Experts suggest that the active compounds in the seeds, particularly thymol, support metabolic health and help the body break down food more effectively after dinner.

“Carom seeds help in maintaining your digestive health,” says Ayurvedic expert Dr. B.N. Sinha. “They treat any kind of abdominal discomfort due to indigestion like stomach pain or burning sensation.”

Beyond simple digestion, the drink serves as a natural carminative. Research indicates that drinking the mixture warm can reduce abdominal bloating and water retention, leading to a flatter stomach over time. The pungent flavor profile of the seeds also signals satiety to the brain, which helps curb the urge for high-calorie late-night snacking.

The preparation requires simmering half to one teaspoon of seeds in a glass of water for five to seven minutes. For those targeting weight loss, practitioners advise drinking the mixture plain, roughly 30 to 45 minutes after the final meal of the day.

While the drink is noted for its high antioxidant and Vitamin C content—which aids immunity and even addresses premature hair greying—consistency remains the most critical factor. “This remedy works best with slow, daily consistency, as your grandmother would suggest,” the findings indicate, noting that results are gradual rather than instantaneous.
