Chandigarh, Jan 15: Panic gripped Sector 32 on Thursday night after two unidentified armed men opened fire at a local chemist shop. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm when the suspects, arriving on a motorcycle, discharged two rounds before fleeing the scene. One of the bullets reportedly struck the shop’s cash counter, though the owner and employees present escaped without injury.
A police team from the Sector 31 station arrived shortly after the shooting to secure the area and begin a forensic sweep. Officers recovered an empty cartridge from the premises and have initiated a search for the suspects based on initial descriptions.
“The two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire before fleeing,” a police official stated during the preliminary investigation.
Authorities mentioned that the motive behind the attack remains unclear, as no immediate demands or threats were reported prior to the gunfire. Police have registered a formal case and are currently scanning footage from CCTV cameras installed near the shop and along the escape routes to identify the vehicle’s registration number.
Security has been tightened in the market area following the strike, and patrolling has been intensified in the surrounding blocks. Officials noted that they are investigating all possible angles, including personal enmity or an attempt at intimidation.
