Amritsar, Sept 25: An individual arrested in connection with the firearm attack on Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaswant Singh escaped police custody in Amritsar during a weapon recovery operation. The suspect, identified as Karan, a resident of Jhanjhoti village, absconded while being escorted by an official team toward the Majitha sector.
Following the escape, Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal placed Rajasansi Police Station House Officer Inspector Gurpreet Singh under suspension for reported supervisory oversights. Police authorities maintained an official silence regarding the precise sequence of events surrounding the flight of the custody subject.
The original incident occurred on September 11, when Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaswant Singh, attached to the Amritsar Commissionerate Police Lines, sustained a head injury after being targeted by two motorcycle-borne assailants in the Rajasansi area. Initial skepticism regarding the attack shifted after investigators processed surveillance footage, leading to the apprehension of Karan and the procurement of a five-day police remand order to pursue leads on associated individuals and motives linked to previous disputes.
