Mohali: Two members of an interstate gang accused of duping 40 individuals by swapping their ATM cards inside ATM vestibules across multiple states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Punjab, have been arrested in Mohali, according to police reports.

The suspects have been identified as Praveen, 30, and Kuldeep, alias Meenu, 32, both residents of Hisar, Haryana.

The Mohali police, led by the CIA (Criminal Investigation Agency), recovered 126 ATM cards, a swipe machine, a Hyundai Venue used in the crime, and ₹3.85 lakh from the duo’s possession.

DSP Talwinder Singh of Mohali CIA stated that the gang primarily targeted senior citizens, misleading them while offering assistance to withdraw money.

“They would swap the victims’ ATM cards inside the ATM booths, falsely claiming the machine wasn’t working. The gang would memorize the victims’ ATM PINs and later withdraw money using their cards after the victims had left,” DSP Singh explained.

The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected, he added.
