Chandigarh: This September in Chandigarh was the coldest in six years, with the lowest average minimum temperature since 2018, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The average minimum temperature was recorded at 24.9°C, the lowest since September 2018 when it stood at 23.7°C.

Despite this, the coldest night this year, on September 16, saw the temperature dip to 22.1°C, slightly warmer than last year’s low of 21.7°C on September 24 and 28, IMD officials said.

They also indicated that dry weather is expected in the coming days, and the monsoon withdrawal is likely to be declared soon.

IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul explained, “Frequent spells of rain and cloudy weather prevented temperatures from rising significantly throughout the month.”

In terms of rainfall, Chandigarh recorded 169.2 mm in September, 29% above the normal 131.4 mm. This was higher than the 52.8 mm recorded in 2023 but lower than the 211.6 mm in 2022.

The average maximum temperature this year was 33.8°C, slightly lower than last year’s 34.4°C, but higher than 2022’s 33.2°C, he added.
