Mohali, 22 January 2025: Mohali police registered a case against three men on Monday for allegedly endangering lives by recklessly driving an Audi car with a Haryana registration plate.

The vehicle reportedly sped away from a police checkpoint near Phase 6 despite being signaled to stop.

Police identified one of the accused as Ramandeep Singh, 24, a resident of Khuni Majra village in Kharar, while the other two remain unidentified.

The car, bearing registration number HR-70-E-5565, was traveling from the Phase 6 night shelter road towards the Phase 6 park when it disregarded the directions of a PCR constable at the checkpoint and raced toward Chandigarh.

“While attempting to evade police pursuit, the suspects drove rashly toward Chandigarh, colliding with multiple road dividers before crashing the car into a divider near Sector 39 light point,” a police official said.

“The trio abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.”

The Phase 1 police impounded the car and filed a case under Sections 125 (acts endangering others’ safety), 281 (rash or negligent driving), and 221 (obstructing public servants) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the PCR constable’s complaint.

Investigators revealed that Singh had been legally disowned by his family. “The car had changed ownership four times. Though Singh was the current user, the registration was not transferred to his name,” a senior officer disclosed.

Raids are underway to locate Singh and his accomplices. “We will apprehend the accused soon,” the officer added.
