Amritsar, Feb 15: Authorities in Amritsar are awaiting medical reports to determine what led to the sudden death of Akashdeep Saini, 26, who was found unresponsive in his car last night. Saini was the son of a Punjab Police Head Constable and had a history of athletic involvement as a football player. Despite early rumors suggesting a link to substance abuse, senior police officials asserted that no physical evidence of an overdose was recovered during the initial inspection of the scene or the deceased.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Jaspal Singh clarified that the investigation has not yet produced proof of foul play or drug use. The ACP mentioned that during the investigation carried out so far, no evidence was found that the victim had died of drug overdose. The officer noted that while Saini briefly regained consciousness when his father arrived at the vehicle, his condition deteriorated rapidly once he was brought home, leading to his eventual death at a nearby medical facility.
The case has drawn attention due to conflicting statements regarding the local drug trade. The victim’s father, Ashok Kumar, originally alleged that drugs were being sold openly in the area, leading to his son’s relapse after rehabilitation. He directly said his son returned after rehabilitation only to lose his life. Following these claims, Kumar later shifted his stance in a recorded message, where he affirmed his support for the department’s anti-drug initiatives. The police maintained that they are committed to a full inquiry to resolve the circumstances of the young man’s passing.
