Chandigarh, Feb 2: Winter conditions tightened their grip across the plains on Monday as Bathinda recorded the lowest temperature in the region at 6.2°C. While the minimum temperatures hovered near the seasonal average, the dip in mercury brought a noticeable chill to several districts across Punjab and Haryana.

In Punjab, the cold was particularly felt in Faridkot and Pathankot, which saw the mercury settle at 6.8°C and 7.2°C, respectively. Other major cities also saw a decline in night temperatures, with Amritsar recording a low of 7.4°C and Ludhiana at 8.4°C. Local officials mentioned that the current weather patterns are consistent with the typical seasonal transition for this time of year.

The joint capital, Chandigarh, remained slightly warmer than its neighboring districts, registering a minimum temperature of 9.8°C. In Haryana, Sirsa was the coldest spot with a reading of 6.6°C, while Gurugram followed at 8.9°C.

“The minimum temperatures remained close to the season’s average in Punjab and Haryana on Monday,” weather officials noted while tracking the data across the two states. Other parts of Haryana saw varied readings, with Ambala recording 10.2°C and Rohtak seeing a relatively higher low of 12.2°C.
