Biting Cold Continues to Sweeps Haryana, Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH, JAN 12 – Piercing cold winds swept through Haryana on Sunday, sending temperatures tumbling to season lows across the state. Hisar was the hardest hit, recording a minimum temperature of 2.2 degrees Celsius, while the joint capital of Chandigarh shivered at 5 degrees Celsius.

The meteorological department has placed the region under a severe cold wave alert, noting that the current spell shows no signs of immediate abatement. “The intense cold sweeping through north India is expected to maintain its grip, with severe conditions likely in isolated parts of the northern plains,” an IMD official confirmed.

In Haryana’s southern and western districts, Narnaul recorded a low of 3 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Rohtak at 4 degrees and Faridabad at 4.2 degrees. Ambala also registered a sharp chill at 5.5 degrees Celsius. The weather office indicated that the proximity to Rajasthan, where temperatures have dipped below zero in places like Pratapgarh and Barmer, has contributed to the freezing winds entering the state.

The cold wave has also disrupted normal life due to heavy fog blankets in the early hours. Experts suggest that these conditions, characterized by low temperatures and high humidity, will continue to impact the region through January 16. Officials have warned that the combination of severe cold and low visibility may lead to further travel delays across the state’s road and rail networks.
