Chandigarh, 8 February 2025: BJP leaders and workers in Haryana and Punjab celebrated as the party prepared to reclaim power in Delhi after 26 years.
At the BJP headquarters in Chandigarh’s Sector 37, party workers burst firecrackers and danced to dhol beats. Similar celebrations took place in Karnal and Kurukshetra, where BJP members distributed sweets.
Punjab BJP general secretary Subhash Sharma said the results signaled the rejection of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s governance. “It is a defeat of Kejriwal’s lies and dishonesty. The people of Delhi have shown that false promises cannot sustain power for long,” he said. Sharma added that AAP’s performance in Delhi should serve as a warning to its leaders in Punjab. “The way they have governed Punjab for the past three years, their fate will be worse than what happened in Delhi today,” he said.
BJP leader Preneet Kaur, a former MP, said the outcome would resonate in Punjab. “They kept talking about their ‘Delhi model,’ but their Aam Aadmi clinics did not work here, and they failed to deliver on their promises,” she said.
Sharma called the verdict the beginning of AAP’s decline in Punjab. “The downfall of the AAP government in Punjab starts from today,” he told reporters.
