Chandigarh, December 20, 2024: Er. Kanwarveer Singh Tohra, former State Secretary of BJP Punjab, has written to Union Railway Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, requesting a stoppage of the Vande Bharat Express (22488) at Sirhind Railway Station.

In his letter, Tohra praised the introduction of the Vande Bharat Express between Amritsar and Delhi, calling it a testament to the government’s commitment to improving rail connectivity.

He further stressed Sirhind’s historical and cultural implication, particularly due to the annual Shahidi Jorh Mela in December, which commemorates the sacrifices of the Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

“The lack of a stoppage at Sirhind Railway Station creates challenges for pilgrims visiting this revered site,” Tohra stated in the letter.

He proposed that halting the train at Sirhind and operating it seven days a week would improve accessibility for devotees and honor the site’s legacy.

Tohra, the grandson of Panth Rattan Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra, also pointed out that the train currently halts at stations like Beas, Jalandhar Cantt, Phagwara, Ludhiana, and Ambala, but bypasses Sirhind despite its historical importance.

The letter called attention to the fact that granting the stoppage would enhance connectivity and pay tribute to the memory of the Sahibzadas.

The proposal awaits the railway minister’s response.
