GOA, NOV 7: Punjab Mines and Geology Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal presented the state’s key policy concerns and mining sector advancements during the national Conference of Mining Ministers held in Goa.

Addressing the forum chaired by Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, the state minister urged the Central government to review the revised eligibility criteria under the SASCI 2026-27 guidelines to ensure equitable financial support for minor mineral states.

Minister Goyal maintained that while Punjab secured first place among Category-C states under the State Mining Readiness Index in FY 2025-26, the current framework primarily prioritizes major mineral auctions. He affirmed that geological limitations should not impede reform-oriented assistance for states primarily handling sand, gravel, and construction materials.

The state minister also sought early sanctions from the National Mineral Exploration Trust for potash exploration in Fazilka and Sri Muktsar Sahib, requesting the acceleration of geological survey levels to attract potential investors.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy appreciated Punjab’s digital governance strides and assured full cooperation in examining the state’s representations, adding that a follow-up meeting with Union ministry officials will be scheduled in Chandigarh.
