New Delhi, 03 November 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah pledged on Sunday that the BJP would implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Jharkhand, excluding tribal communities from its scope if the party wins power in the state.
Speaking at the launch of the BJP’s manifesto, titled ‘Sankalp Patra,’ for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, Shah emphasized that a Displacement Commission would also be established to ensure the rehabilitation of those displaced by industries and mining operations across the state.
“Our government will introduce the UCC in Jharkhand, but tribals will be kept out of its ambit,” Shah stated in Ranchi. He accused Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the JMM government of “false propaganda,” saying, “Their claims that the UCC will impact tribal rights, culture, and legislation are completely baseless, as tribals will not be included.”
Shah added that implementing the UCC would carefully protect tribal rights, dispelling concerns about cultural or legal impact. Additionally, he said the BJP would consider the Sarna religious code issue, promising that any actions would be made with the interests of the tribal community in mind.
Among the BJP’s key pledges was a commitment to creating five lakh jobs in Jharkhand, including 2.87 lakh government positions, Shah announced.
Shah also addressed the issue of illegal immigration, promising that a BJP-led government would enact laws to repossess land from infiltrators and would identify and deport those living in Jharkhand unlawfully. He asserted that the security of the local population was a top priority, noting, “Land, daughters, and livelihoods—‘Mati, Beti, Roti’—are under threat from illegal immigrants, and we will protect our indigenous people.”
These assurances reflect the BJP’s focus on tribal rights, employment, and security, as the party seeks to broaden its appeal ahead of the state polls.
