Chandigarh, Jan. 28— Panic spread across parts of Chandigarh on Wednesday morning after several private and government schools received bomb threat emails, prompting authorities to evacuate students and staff as a precautionary measure.

At least five private schools — including St. Kabir Public School, Vivek High School, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sacred Heart School and Chitkara School — were among those that received the threatening emails, officials said. Some government schools were also affected.

School administrations immediately informed the police, following which teams were dispatched to the campuses. Students present inside school buildings were evacuated, while many were sent back home before regular classes could begin.

“A standard safety protocol was followed. All the affected school premises were cleared, and bomb disposal squads were called in for inspection,” a senior police official said.

Emergency sirens were also reportedly sounded in parts of the city as authorities moved to secure the locations. Bomb detection and disposal squads conducted thorough checks across the campuses to rule out any immediate danger.

Parents gathered outside school gates as evacuations were carried out, while school authorities coordinated with law enforcement agencies to manage the situation.

“The safety of children is our top priority. We acted immediately after receiving the email and cooperated fully with the police,” said an official from one of the private schools.

Police said investigations are underway to trace the source of the emails. No suspicious object had been found till the filing of this report.
