JALANDHAR, Sept 30: Security agencies across Punjab were put on maximum alert on Wednesday after several private schools in Jalandhar and Amritsar received email bomb threats hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled address at a statewide anti-drug event.
The threat emails, received early in the morning around 7:00 AM, claimed that explosive devices were planted across multiple locations, including prominent schools, local court complexes, places of worship, and the rally ground at Paragpur. School managements immediately alerted law enforcement, leading to the prompt evacuation of students and precautionary closures across the affected campuses.
Police departments, accompanied by bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage teams, initiated extensive sweep operations across the named institutions and public sites. Cyber crime units were deployed to trace the origin and IP address of the electronic communications.
Authorities affirmed that security protocols surrounding the Home Minister’s venue and travel route were significantly intensified, with multi-tier perimeter checkpoints and heightened surveillance established to ensure public safety.
