AMRITSAR, Dec 12 — Multiple private schools in Amritsar were evacuated Friday after receiving bomb threat emails, prompting citywide closures and large-scale police searches.
Students and staff were moved out minutes after the emails surfaced in the morning. Bomb disposal teams and police units swept the campuses, while parents rushed to pick up their children following urgent calls from school managements.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar urged residents to remain calm. “Initial assessment suggests this could be a mischievous act,” Bhullar said. “We have seen similar emails in earlier cases in 2022 and July 2025 that turned out to be non-credible.”
The Deputy Commissioner directed the district education officer to shut all private and government schools for the day as a precaution.
The cyber police station has begun tracking the origin of the emails, officials said, adding that preliminary patterns resemble earlier prank threats traced to students.
