Chandigarh, Dec 26: Panic gripped the Chandigarh District Court complex on Friday after a bomb threat call prompted police to evacuate the premises, officials and eyewitnesses said.
Police received the threat around 11:55 a.m., following which courtrooms were cleared and litigants, lawyers, judges and staff were asked to move out as a precautionary measure.
“I was standing outside a courtroom when police suddenly asked everyone to vacate,” advocate Vinod Verma said. “At first, I thought it was a mock drill for security purposes.”
Security agencies conducted a thorough search of the court complex for more than two hours. No suspicious object was found, police said, and normal court functioning was later restored.
Ashok Chauhan, president of the District Bar Association, said the evacuation was carried out smoothly. “Advocates fully cooperated with the police, and everyone, including court staff and judges, was evacuated without panic,” he said.
Police said further action would be taken to trace the source of the call.
