Mansa, July 28 — A 13-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by three men in Punjab’s Mansa district for stealing pigeons, police said on Sunday. The body of the Class 7 student was discovered hanging from a tree near Rordki village in the Sardulgarh area in the early hours of Sunday.

According to a complaint filed by the victim’s father, the boy went missing on Saturday evening. He alleged that one of the accused had earlier threatened the child with dire consequences after accusing him of stealing a pigeon.

Based on the family’s statement, police have registered a murder case against three villagers — Tarlochan Singh, Kala Singh, and Teja Singh, all residents of the same village.

“Two of the accused, Teja and Tarlochan, have been taken into custody,” said Sardulgarh Station House Officer Vikramjit Singh. “Initial examination of the body shows neck marks, suggesting possible strangulation. The body has been sent to Mansa Civil Hospital for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.”

The third suspect, Kala Singh, remains absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him.

The gruesome killing has triggered outrage in the village, with locals demanding swift justice for the boy.
