Chandigarh, March 26: Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardip Singh Mundian on Wednesday said the budget presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema will transform the state’s urban areas by ensuring world-class facilities, with ₹5,983 crore allocated for 2025-26.

Mundian mentioned that since 40 percent of Punjab’s population resides in urban areas, the budget prioritizes their development.

“The government has made significant announcements for Punjab’s major cities, especially Ludhiana,” he said.

He noted that around 50 kilometres of world-class roads will be developed in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and SAS Nagar over the next year.

“₹225 crore has been earmarked under the Punjab Municipal Development Fund to upgrade road infrastructure and ensure uniform provision of five essential municipal services across all 166 towns and cities: cleanliness, water supply, sewage, roads, and streetlights,” he added.

Mundian stated that ₹300 crore allocated for the Punjab Municipal Services Improvement Project (PMSIP) will enhance urban governance, financial management, and sustainable water services in Ludhiana.

“The procurement of 367 e-buses for Ludhiana will promote sustainable and accessible urban mobility,” he said, adding that the city will also see the development of a Civil Bus Depot.

He further mentioned that under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance Scheme, the state is implementing projects worth ₹120 crore to improve market access, financial assistance, and technology adoption for small enterprises.

“The budget also includes ₹10 crore to upgrade the R&S Centre and the Institute of Auto Parts and Hand Tools Technology (IAHT) in Ludhiana,” Mundian said.
