Abohar, July 7: Panic spread through Abohar city on Monday after Sanjay Verma, co-owner of the “New Wear Well” showroom, was shot dead in broad daylight just outside his store.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, Verma was attacked as he arrived in his car near the entrance of his showroom. Three unidentified assailants approached on a motorcycle, opened fire, and then attempted to escape.
In the chaos that followed, the attackers reportedly lost control of their motorcycle and fell. They then fled on foot for a short distance before snatching another two-wheeler from a passerby to continue their escape.
Police have launched a manhunt and are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers and trace their route. Senior officers reached the scene shortly after the incident and said multiple teams had been deployed.
Authorities are also speaking with eyewitnesses and reviewing Verma’s business dealings as part of the investigation. The incident has sent shockwaves through the city’s business community, prompting demands for stronger security and quick justice.
