New Delhi, April 9 — The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the construction of a 19.2-kilometre six-lane Zirakpur Bypass at an estimated cost of ₹1,878.31 crore to improve traffic flow across Punjab and Haryana.
The access-controlled bypass will begin at the junction with NH-7 (Zirakpur–Patiala road) and end at the junction with NH-5 (Zirakpur–Parwanoo road), cutting across both states.
“The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved construction of the 6-lane Zirakpur Bypass on Hybrid Annuity Mode,” the government said in an official release.
The project is expected to ease vehicular pressure in Zirakpur and neighbouring cities including Panchkula, Mohali Aerocity, and Patiala, while offering direct connectivity to Himachal Pradesh.
Officials noted the bypass will help decongest urban sections of NH-7, NH-5, and NH-152 by diverting through-traffic and reducing travel time.
“The road will offer smoother movement for commuters and freight between Delhi, Punjab, and the hill states,” a transport ministry official said.
