Officer Allegedly Demanded Bribe to Favour Criminal Case; CBI Trap Team Catches Him Accepting ₹80,000

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 6: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Sub-Inspector of Delhi Police, posted at Police Station Prashant Vihar, Delhi, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving ₹1 lakh.

According to the CBI, the case was registered on October 4, 2026, on the basis of a complaint against the police officer, who was serving as an Investigation Officer in a criminal case registered at Police Station Prashant Vihar.

The complainant alleged that the accused Sub-Inspector had demanded ₹1 lakh as illegal gratification in return for providing favourable treatment in the criminal case registered against him.

During the personal search of the complainant, the accused allegedly took ₹20,000 found in his pocket under pressure and subsequently directed him to arrange and bring the remaining ₹80,000 on the following day.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on October 4. During the trap operation, the accused police officer was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹80,000 from the complainant.

The accused Sub-Inspector has since been apprehended by the CBI, while further investigation into the matter is underway.

The agency said that the action reflects its continued efforts to tackle corruption and bribery involving public servants.

The CBI has also urged citizens who encounter instances of corruption or are subjected to demands for bribes by public officials to report such matters to the agency and share relevant information.
