Abohar, July 7, 2025 — In a breakthrough in the daylight murder of ‘New Wear Well’ co-owner Sanjay Verma, CCTV footage has surfaced capturing the dramatic movements of the three armed assailants moments after the shooting, offering police their clearest lead yet.

Verma was gunned down in front of his showroom near Bhagat Singh Chowk on Monday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the business community. Surveillance cameras from the area recorded the suspects attempting to escape on a motorcycle immediately after the attack. However, the footage shows the bike skidding just meters from the scene, forcing the trio to abandon it.

The video then reveals the gunmen running through a congested street, pulling a commuter off his two-wheeler at gunpoint and fleeing on the stolen bike. Their escape, however, didn’t end there. Additional footage from nearby Sitto Road shows them abandoning the snatched bike and entering a white Maruti Swift car, which was waiting to aid their getaway.

“This footage is a vital lead. It shows the killers’ escape strategy and confirms they had a backup plan in place,” said Fazilka SSP Gurmeet Singh, who is heading the investigation.

Police teams are now analyzing the footage frame by frame and using facial recognition tools to enhance the suspects’ images. Assistance has been sought from neighboring districts, and the white Swift is being traced through toll plaza logs and highway surveillance systems.

All entry and exit points of Abohar have been sealed, and a large-scale manhunt is underway. Officials believe the swift switch between vehicles and the gunpoint hijack indicates the murder was premeditated and meticulously planned.

The killing has sparked public outrage across Abohar. Local traders and business associations staged protests demanding swift justice and heightened security in commercial zones. “This is not just about one businessman. It’s about the safety of all of us. We will not rest until justice is done,” said Rajeev Sethi, president of the Abohar Vyapar Mandal.

Police sources said forensic teams have collected evidence from the crime scene and recovered the abandoned motorcycle for analysis. Investigators are also reviewing Verma’s business dealings to ascertain a possible motive behind the murder.

As the investigation intensifies, police remain tight-lipped about specific leads but expressed confidence that the assailants would be identified and arrested soon.
