CDS Reviews Northern, Western Commands Post ‘Operation Sindoor’

CHANDIMANDIR/UDHAMPUR, May 26 — Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan conducted a high-level strategic review of the Indian Army’s Northern and Western Commands following the recent success of Operation Sindoor, aimed at neutralizing threats along India’s western front.

During his visit to the Headquarters Western Command in Chandimandir, General Chauhan was briefed by Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, on the operation’s kinetic and non-kinetic punitive responses. The review included detailed assessments of defence preparedness, current operational dynamics, and the prevailing security environment along the western borders.

Senior officers highlighted key enablers in the operation’s success, such as technological upgrades, logistical enhancements, and real-time situational awareness, which significantly boosted operational efficiency. The CDS was also briefed on the welfare and medicare provisions being extended to both serving and retired personnel.

At Udhampur, General Chauhan held discussions with Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, GOC-in-C, Northern Command. He was apprised of the Northern Army’s decisive actions in dismantling terrorist networks, neutralizing enemy assets, and securing both military installations and civilian areas targeted during the operation.

Lt Gen Sharma also provided updates on the ongoing rehabilitation efforts for border civilians affected by hostilities and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eliminating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, while maintaining high levels of operational and logistical readiness.

Emphasizing jointness across the armed forces, General Chauhan urged continued vigilance in the face of evolving threats. “The synergy between the commands and the timely execution of operational objectives, despite the challenges, reflect the professionalism and preparedness of our forces,” he stated.

The CDS commended the field formations deployed along the Northern and Western frontiers for their operational excellence and strategic coordination, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, reinforcing the Army’s focus on national security and integrated defence preparedness.
