Chandigarh, Dec 7: The Chandigarh municipal corporation has begun implementing a new set of measures to manage stray and community dogs after a recent order from the Supreme Court, officials said on Saturday.

MC commissioner Amit Kumar said the corporation is finalising a citywide network of designated feeding zones to reduce conflict and improve hygiene. “We are in the advanced stages of setting up official feeding spots across Chandigarh. Nearly 200 locations have already been identified,” he said.

Officials said the initiative is meant to ensure organised, safe feeding practices while supporting both public health and animal welfare. The corporation has also started developing a new dog shelter that will house Animal Birth Control (ABC) and Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) units along with rehabilitation facilities.

“This shelter will help us strengthen scientific and humane population management in the city,” Kumar said.

The MC continues to run its routine ABC and ARV drives based on guidelines issued by the Animal Welfare Board of India, officials added.
