Chandigarh, May 31 – A local court has dismissed a civil suit filed by actress and co-owner of Punjab Kings, Preity Zinta, against fellow KPH Dream Cricket Pvt Ltd directors Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia, declaring it outside the court’s jurisdiction.

Civil Judge Kaushal Kumar Yadav ruled that the matter—concerning the legality of an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on April 21—fell under the scope of oppression and mismanagement under Sections 241 and 242 of the Companies Act, 2013, and thus must be addressed by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

Zinta had challenged the EGM as illegal and sought to block any resolutions passed during the meeting. She also asked the court to restrain Muneesh Khanna from acting as a director. However, lawyers for Wadia and the company argued that the suit was misplaced before a civil court due to the statutory bar under Section 430 of the Companies Act.

The court rejected the plaint under Order VII Rule 11(d) of the Civil Procedure Code, but granted Zinta the liberty to approach NCLT.

Zinta holds a 23% stake in KPH Dream Cricket Pvt Ltd, the company that owns IPL franchise Punjab Kings.
