CHANDIGARH, July 29 — The Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) on Tuesday launched a dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) portal — www.chandigarhev.com — aimed at streamlining services for EV users and accelerating the city’s transition to cleaner mobility.

The launch was announced during a meeting of CREST’s governing body, chaired by UT Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, where officials discussed key developments in the city’s renewable energy initiatives.

The new portal is designed to enhance accessibility and transparency under the Chandigarh EV Policy, allowing eligible residents to apply for EV subsidies online, track application status in real time, and locate nearby public EV charging stations. The station locator is integrated with Google Maps to enable easy navigation across the city.

“This portal will make EV adoption more seamless for citizens and strengthen Chandigarh’s position as a clean, green, and tech-enabled city,” said an official statement following the meeting.

In another key development, Chief Secretary Verma acknowledged that Chandigarh has reached saturation in the installation of Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) plants on all government buildings, marking a significant milestone in its renewable energy goals. To ensure sustained performance of these assets, he directed CREST to conduct third-party audits of SPV systems that have been operational for over five years.

“These audits will not only reinforce accountability but also help assess the long-term sustainability of our solar infrastructure,” Verma said.

The Chief Secretary further stressed the importance of evaluating technically innovative solar projects — such as proposed SPV installations over cycle tracks — for feasibility, aesthetics, and efficiency. He directed close coordination with the Chief Architect, UT, to ensure such proposals align with Chandigarh’s urban design standards.

CREST officials said both the EV portal and the solar initiatives reflect the city’s ongoing efforts to advance sustainable energy, reduce its carbon footprint, and position Chandigarh as a model for green urban development.
