CHANDIGARH, July 16 — A 35-year-old man from Mullanpur died by suicide, allegedly following prolonged mental harassment by his wife, police said on Tuesday. The incident came to light after the man was brought to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

According to the police, the deceased’s brother filed a formal complaint, stating that the victim had been under intense psychological stress due to continuous mistreatment by his wife, which he claimed ultimately pushed his brother toward taking his own life.

“The complainant has alleged that the victim was mentally tortured over an extended period, and this distress was a major factor in his decision,” said a police official familiar with the case.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against the wife under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances leading to the man’s death.

Authorities are also reviewing communications, witness statements, and any available evidence that may provide clarity on the nature of the relationship and the events preceding the suicide.

The name of the deceased has not been officially released by police pending family notification and procedural formalities.
