Chandigarh Mayor Demands Accountability for BJP Hoardings

Chandigarh, October 19, 2024: The issue surrounding BJP hoardings in Chandigarh has sparked controversy, prompting the mayor to take decisive action by requesting a response from the municipal corporation.

According to reports, the dispute arose after hoardings were displayed during the oath-taking ceremony of the Haryana government, which took place yesterday and featured participation from Prime Minister Modi with the mayor inquiring whether the BJP had obtained the necessary permissions for the hoardings.

“If the BJP erected these hoardings without permission, appropriate action should be taken against them, including issuing a notice and imposing a fine,” the mayor stated.

During the ceremony held in Panchkula, momentous hoardings featuring BJP leaders were installed along the route from Passport Chowk to Lalit Hotel. The mayor has now asked officials for clarification regarding the permissions for these displays.

This isn’t the first instance of such controversy; a similar case emerged in 2019 when a young man from an ordinary background received a notice for ₹68 lakh from the corporation concerning hoardings erected during a Shobha Yatra. The mayor underlined that “the law is equal for all,” questioning why the BJP has been allowed to install multiple boards without similar repercussions.
