Chandigarh, Sept 14 — Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla will represent India at the BRICS Urban Future Forum-2025 in Moscow, scheduled for September 17–18, after receiving clearance from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The annual forum brings together city leaders, experts, and policymakers to explore new technologies and strategies for the future of urban development.
The two-day conference is expected to draw more than 15,000 participants and over 300 speakers from 30 countries. Mayors and municipal heads from across the BRICS grouping — which now includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates — will join international business leaders and technology specialists in discussing ways to address the challenges facing mega cities.
Babla is slated to address the gathering on the theme “Technological Framework of the City: The Space of the Future.” Organisers said the session will focus on how cloud-based platforms, smart city solutions, and digital infrastructure can improve efficiency in urban governance, create opportunities for business, and raise the quality of life in cities worldwide.
“This participation signals growing recognition of Chandigarh’s achievements in urban governance and its efforts to adopt modern technology for citizen-centric development,” an official familiar with the programme noted.
Delegates at the forum are expected to share best practices and case studies on city planning, mobility, waste management, and the use of advanced technologies in service delivery. The exchange of knowledge, officials said, aims to create a roadmap for sustainable and inclusive cities of the future.
