Chandigarh, Feb 25: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has set aside ₹5 crore in its 2026-27 budget to overhaul water supply and sewerage networks across several villages recently brought under its jurisdiction. Mayor Saurabh Joshi noted that the investment is essential to provide better infrastructure for residents in areas including Butrela, Badheri, Burail, Attawa, and Hallomajra, among others.
According to the budget estimates, the project aims to modernize services in Dadumajra, Maloya, Palsora, and Kajheri to enhance the overall quality of life. The expansion will further cover a wide range of localities such as Dhanas, Sarangpur, Khuda Alisher, and Raipur Kalan.
“Infrastructure for the supply of tertiary treated water will also be improved next year,” Mayor Joshi stated, adding that a specialized network must be laid in remaining sections. A separate provision of ₹1 crore has been designated for new and ongoing tertiary water works scheduled for the upcoming financial year.
Beyond the village upgrades, the civic body has earmarked ₹2.40 crore specifically for enhancing basic amenities in colonies housing the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). These rehabilitation colonies, which include Bapu Dham, Indira Colony, and Mauli Jagran, were originally equipped with basic services that have since become overburdened due to significant population growth and vertical construction.
The Mayor declared that the funds would be utilized to strengthen storm water drainage, sewerage lines, and water supply systems to meet the current demands of these densely populated sectors.
