Chandigarh, Oct 30: Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) commissioner Amit Kumar on Wednesday issued strict directions to officers, reiterating a zero-tolerance policy towards encroachments on corporation land.
During a review meeting, the commissioner directed all officials up to the level of chief engineer to ensure complete removal of encroachments within their respective jurisdictions. He instructed that each officer must submit a certificate confirming the removal status by November 15, 2025, and continue submitting such certification on the 15th of every month thereafter.
Any temporary encroachment found on MC land must be removed within seven days, the commissioner directed, while permanent encroachments should be immediately reported to higher authorities for clearance after approval from the competent authority.
The commissioner also directed the area JE, SDE, and XEN (Roads) to carry out a detailed field inspection of Sector 25 and Janta Colony to identify corporation-owned land and mark instances of encroachment. The officials have been tasked with preparing an action plan for fencing the civic body’s land and proposing its future use to prevent further encroachment.
Emphasising accountability, the commissioner warned that officers failing to comply with the directives would be held personally responsible. “The municipal corporation is committed to protecting public land and ensuring its planned and transparent utilisation for the benefit of citizens,” Amit Kumar said.
