Chandigarh MC Revises Fountain Tender to Boost Revenue

Chandigarh, Dec 7: Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) will release a revised tender for the operation and maintenance of 52 city fountains after previous bids failed to attract participants. Officials said the updated terms aim to generate over ₹10 crore in revenue.

The earlier tenders, issued twice in the last four months, faced low interest because advertisement spaces were limited to inside the fountains. “We expect to generate revenue in crores with the advertisements on these 52 fountains. The terms and conditions have been amended and we are hopeful that the fresh bidding will be highly successful,” said Mayor Harpreet Babla.

Under the revised model, ads can be displayed outside the fountains and gardens, along with public messages issued by the corporation. The successful bidder will also manage the upkeep of gardens, including prominent locations like Zakir Hussain Rose Garden in Sector 16, Nehru Park in Sector 22, and Sector 17 Plaza.

The MC had launched a revenue-based model in August this year, allowing bidders to maintain fountain infrastructure in exchange for advertising rights and licensing fees. Following the failed bids, the case was handed to the officer on special duty (OSD) to review and amend the tender terms.
