New Delhi/Chandigarh, March 12– The Chandigarh Administration has not revised social welfare pensions since 2016 and has not submitted any proposal to the Centre for an increase, MP Manish Tewari said Tuesday, citing a parliamentary reply from the Union government.
Tewari had raised a question in Parliament regarding the number of beneficiaries under various welfare schemes and the last revision of these pensions. In response, the Union minister of social welfare mentioned that old age, widow, and disability pensions in Chandigarh were last revised in 2016.
Pensions under the Building and Other Construction Welfare Board, managed by the labour department, were revised in December 2017. The Union rural development ministry has no ongoing proposal for further revision.
“It is unfortunate that the Chandigarh Administration has not sent any proposal to revise pensions since 2011, 2012, and 2016 for different categories. The most vulnerable sections of society remain without an increase, while Punjab and Haryana have made revisions,” Tewari said.
