Chandigarh, June 6: A 54-year-old constable with the Chandigarh Police, Paramjeet Singh, was found dead at his residence in Police Lines, Sector 26, late Thursday night in a suspected case of suicide.

Singh, a former Army personnel and currently serving with the police band unit, is believed to have ended his life by hanging himself from a pipe in the storeroom of his government quarters. According to officials, he had been undergoing treatment for depression at a private hospital in Sector 32.

The incident came to light early Friday when his wife discovered the body. No suicide note was recovered from the scene.

“There is no indication of foul play. Preliminary investigation suggests it is a case of suicide. He had been under treatment for mental health issues,” said a senior police official. Proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC have been initiated.

Singh was widely respected by colleagues for his disciplined work ethic and gentle demeanor. His sudden death has left fellow officers in deep shock.

“He was quiet, disciplined, and always respectful,” said a colleague. “It’s hard to believe he’s no longer with us.”
