CHANDIGARH, Oct 3— Chandigarh Police personnel and their families will now receive significantly higher financial and social support, with the administration announcing a wide range of enhanced welfare measures, including a sharp increase in death compensation and allowances.
At a Bada Khana held at Police Lines, Sector 26, UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria said the natural death compensation has been raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹3 lakh, while compensation for accidental deaths during duty will now stand at ₹10 lakh. Off-duty accidental death cases will receive ₹5 lakh.
“The welfare of our police personnel and their families is our priority,” Kataria noted, while also declaring the restoration of the 13th salary for Chandigarh Police staff, which had been pending for two years due to technical reasons.
The revised package also includes a rise in funeral expenses from ₹20,000 to ₹50,000 and enhanced support for cases of permanent disability, with assistance of up to ₹3 lakh. Marriage loan limits have been increased to ₹4 lakh, while concessional education loans up to ₹5 lakh will be available at a 5 percent interest rate.
Personnel suffering from prolonged illness will now be eligible for extraordinary leave (EOL) assistance of ₹20,000 per month. Emergency medical aid of ₹1 lakh has also been announced, alongside improved paediatric care facilities at the police hospital. Families will additionally receive ₹20,000 for air transport of mortal remains within India.
Financial support through monthly salary deductions with 3.5 percent interest, suspended since 2022, will also resume, with arrears released to retired staff.
On the occasion, Kataria distributed scholarships worth ₹1.85 crore among 402 wards of police personnel. Another 21 students excelling in academics and sports at national and international levels were felicitated.
“These measures will strengthen the security and dignity of our police families,” Kataria said, underscoring the administration’s intent to expand welfare for the force.
