CHANDIGARH, Feb 27 — Multiple educational institutions across the city were placed on high alert Friday morning after receiving a series of threat emails. The messages, which prompted an immediate response from the Chandigarh Police and bomb disposal squads, led to the temporary disruption of ongoing examinations and the evacuation of several campuses.
Security teams, accompanied by fire brigade personnel and dog squads, carried out extensive searches at both private and government schools, including Vivek High School, St. John’s, and Carmel Convent. While the emails specified potential timings for disruptions at schools and the Punjab Secretariat, officials affirmed that the primary focus remains on ensuring the safety of students and staff.
“The authorities are examining the emails and reviewing their similarity with incidents reported earlier this year,” a senior official stated. He noted that while some exams were halted, many resumed shortly after premises were declared safe by the bomb disposal units.
The communication reportedly contained references to international matters and regional separatist themes. Police personnel maintained that a cyber investigation is underway to trace the origin of these messages. Security agencies declared that extra precautions have been taken, with personnel deployed outside cleared institutions to provide reassurance to parents and the community.
Officials affirmed that the situation is being monitored closely and have requested the public to rely only on verified information. This latest alert follows a similar occurrence on January 28, which was later confirmed to be a hoax.
