Chandigarh, Oct 10: Chandigarh Police detained several senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders on Saturday after the party organized a demonstration outside the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Sector 17.

Prominent figures present at the protest included AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who joined party workers in raising slogans against central authorities and calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Demonstrators were subsequently taken into custody and held at the Sector 17 police station following the gathering.

The demonstration was held in solidarity with the CJP’s campaign challenging the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Addressing the crowd prior to their detention, AAP leaders strongly criticized the voter list verification process, alleging that millions of names had been improperly removed across the country. Party representatives asserted that democratic mechanisms were being compromised by administrative decisions, reiterating demands for immediate electoral oversight reform.
